For my first “Throwback Thursday” post, I wanted to share a project from 2009.
I was one of several area designers asked to design one of the unique 29th floor models for the brand new luxury condominiums being built in Seattle. The new building was called ESCALA.
It opened in May of 2010 to rave reviews. Prior to opening their doors, the developer, and Luxe Magazine held a charity event and provided tours to the public where we were able to show our spaces off to the press, prospective buyers, and any other design curious viewers.
Little did I know ESCALA would become front and center in the minds of millions as the backdrop for a 2012 New York Times fiction bestseller (and later blockbuster movie) “Fifty Shades of Grey”! In fact, the penthouse unit for the main character, Christian Grey, was directly above the unit I designed months earlier.
One of my favorite aspects of the project was the master bedroom with spectacular views. Here, I chose a Cannon Bullock wallcovering made of mulberry paper and silk ribbon for an interesting pop adjacent to the wall of glass.
And just for fun, below is an interview with, Seattle’s New Day Northwest, where they interviewed three of us.
